HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CASHMERE
Gentle hand washing is the preferred cleaning method.
Follow our simple steps to keep your cashmere looking and feeling brand new.
TIPS FOR HAND WASHING
Use a mild wool wash detergent and dissolve completely in cool water.
Immerse the garment and wash gently with your hands avoiding rubbing.
Thoroughly rinse the garment and gently squeeze to remove excess water. Do not wring.
Lie flat on a clean dry towel, then roll up and squeeze out any excess water.
Place back on a dry towel and gently pull back into shape. Dry in the shade.
Ensure your cashmere is completely dry before storing.
Always fold your cashmere as hanging overtime will cause shoulder dimples and distort the shape.
To avoid moths and critters store your cashmere in a cashmere storage bag or surround it with cedar balls or blocks.
Pilling is a natural characteristic of all quality cashmere. A cashmere comb used on your freshly washed and dried cashmere will help keep it looking like new. Lie on a flat surface and gently comb in one direction.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SILK
Gentle hand washing is the preferred cleaning method.
Follow our simple steps to keep your silk looking and feeling brand new.
Dyed silk fades, so test your garment for colorfastness before washing. Dab an inconspicuous area, like the inside seam, with a damp clean cloth or cotton bud. If the color bleeds, take your garment to the dry cleaners, dark-colored, and patterned items are also best left to the professionals.
TIPS FOR HAND WASHING
Use a mild wool wash detergent and dissolve completely in cool water.
Immerse the garment and wash gently with your hands avoiding rubbing.
To remove excess water, place the wet garment on a white cotton towel. Fold the towel over and gently blot. Then, using a padded hanger, hang the garment over the bathtub to drip dry.
Do not hang items in the sun.
TREAT STAINS
There's no need to purchase a specific stain fighter for silk. Instead, make a homemade solution by mixing 2 cups of lukewarm water with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar. "This recipe is especially good for deodorant and perspiration stains,"
After testing for colorfastness, fill a clean spray bottle with your mix and spray on the stain. Use a sponge or double the fabric and gently work the mixture into the area. "The key is to be gentle, since rubbing can damage the fibres,"
WRINKLE REMOVAL
Steaming is a better option than ironing (as long as your steamer is made for delicate fabrics). If, however you only have an iron, turn your garment (it should always be slightly damp) inside out and choose a low setting.
You can use a steamer on dry garments, but make sure the temperature doesn’t get too hot.
If the steamer drips and leaves a water stain, dunk the item in cool water and allow it to dry, the spot should disappear.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HEMP
When washing hemp, ensure you set your machine to a cool to warm temperature, never hot, and keep it on a gentle spin cycle with similar coloured garments to protect those precious fibres. Don’t bother with dry cleaning your hemp, as it is better to wash with water.
Avoid using any harsh chemicals such as bleach on hemp, not only are they super damaging to the planet but also your hemp clothing. Keep it simple with a gentle wool wash or detergent – If you want to brighten your white threads, add a cup of baking soda to your load.
Avoid putting your hemp clothing in the dryer at all times due to the risk of possible shrinkage and misshaping – instead, opt for line drying. Hemp is super absorbent, and when it’s wet, it can be heavy, so where possible, dry it flat to avoid the garment growing or misshaping. Also, make sure to turn your vibrant or dark threads inside out to reduce the risk of fading.
DRYCLEANING
If in doubt, all our products are also dry cleanable.
Weaves of Himalaya cannot take responsibility for damage to your garment. These instructions are a guide only.
